Palms Casino Resort Spa workers vote to unionize

In Las Vegas, workers at the Palms Casino Resort Spa have reportedly overwhelmingly voted to unionize and are now set to be represented by the Local 165 branch of the Bartenders Union and the Local 226 chapter of the Culinary Workers Union.

According to a Sunday report from the Associated Press news service published by the Las Vegas Sun newspaper, the result came after a two-day secret ballot supervised by the National Labor Relations Board saw some 84% of the around 900 workers at the Palms Casino Resort Spa vote to unionize.

Bought by the Station Casinos subsidiary of American casino operator Red Rock Resorts Incorporated for $312.5 million in October of 2016, the Palms Casino Resort Spa features a 95,000 sq ft casino complete with approximately 1,250 slots and 48 gaming tables as well as a race and sportsbook. The venue located just west of the Las Vegas Strip moreover has a pair of hotel towers offering 702 rooms encompassing 19 penthouses and 85 suites alongside 15 restaurants and 60,000 sq ft of convention and meeting space.

The Las Vegas Sun reported that Station Casinos is the third-largest private sector employer in southern Nevada due to owning or operating some 20 properties across the Las Vegas metropolitan area and has now seen workers at five of its venues vote to unionize since 2015.
